Shirtposting Studios

Shirtposting Studios is an Etsy store and fun side project of mine that develops “unique designs for the chronically online” using Printify‘s print-on-demand services.

Its eclectic vibe is acutely attuned to the existential, absurd, and often nonsensical humor of the online generation, creating shirt and apparel designs with subject matter that ranges from niche pulp fiction to whimsical wordplay.

As the lead designer and founder of Shirtposting Studios, I manage everything for the brand, including:

  • Logo + Banner Design
  • Product Design
  • Coming Soon: Social Media Copy
  • Technical Documentation
  • Product Descriptions
  • Coming Soon: Web Design

Product Designs & Descriptions

Since its debut in July 2024, Shirtposting Studios has accumulated 20+ listings – and that list just keeps growing!

In addition to the product designs, I also develop the product descriptions for the items in my store. Printify provides the specifics regarding the fabrics and materials of the shirts, while I bring descriptions for the designs themselves.

Here are a couple of my personal favorites:

Technical Documentation

Although Shirtposting Studios is currently still a one-woman-show, it has come with its own learning curves and organizational decisions along the way. How do I want to track my expenses? Should I track my inventory? How do I create those mock-ups again?

As I’ve continued to learn new skills related to owning and operating my very own print-on-demand Etsy store, I’ve been creating documentation to help keep my day-to-day business operations in order.

But – if it’s just me – why bother?

Well, there are a bunch of reasons why I want to document these processes:

  • Because I can’t always remember the exact steps I took with every process I’m developing for my business.
  • Because it takes way longer to try to piece it together from other resources every single time if there’s no singular point of reference to guide me.
  • Because my organizational structure is specific to me and my business.
  • Because I want to ensure that the process will be consistent and that the data I maintain is clean and properly organized each time.
  • Because it won’t always be just me – and I want to be ready for that.

So here’s an example of a procedural document I wrote for Shirtposting Studios, maintaining the logo (this one is slightly different as it is used primarily on the shirt tags) and thematic elements of the branding while also including necessary information for the procedure itself:

Upcoming Projects: Social Media + Website

Shirtposting Studios has been a side project for a little less than a year, but it has gained a substantial amount of organic interest on Etsy with over 400 shop visits in the past 9 months since its debut in Q3 of 2024.

Building on its successful launch, I have additional plans to further expand its growth over the next year through the development of an increased social media presence as well as an independent website for the brand.
